Located along Manhattan’s Museum Mile, the Duke House is a circa 1912 grand private residence that has accommodated NYU’s Institute of Fine Art since 1959. Designed in the French Classical style, the property has been modestly altered over the years, including a renovation by Robert Venturi. NYU commissioned Richard to reconfigure the property’s lower level, which houses the Institute’s administrative offices.

The design solution improves the circulation and efficiency of the space, introduces new classrooms as well as amenities to
increase departmental programs and enhance the space devoted to students and faculty.
