Mollusca NYC New York, NY Alpina Restaurant Group 3600 SF
This restaurant is a flagship in the US for a popular eating establishment originating abroad. The owners were interested in having a local branch in the city that specializes in seafood dishes. The space is located within two historic buildings that were previously used for meat production and distribution for the Gansevoort Market. The interior decor has made use of its industrial influences by highlighting a pallet of materials that includes wood, metal, and reflective finishes. The restaurant invites its patrons to experience a public venue for social engagement, interaction and experimental culinary dining.
Restaurants are vital components of city life. Forbes Magazine write ‘Its a sleek and shadowy dining room, especially at twilight’. The New York Times cited ‘Handblown glass lights casting wavy impressions on mirrored walls convey a deep sea atmosphere’. The community has embraced this new asset as a resource that adds to the character of the neighborhood known as the Meat Packing District. This project has received approval by the New York City Landmarks Commission.
